NEW YORK - Snubbed by Cooperstown, "Bull Durham" will get its 15th anniversary celebration in Brooklyn.

Tim Robbins, Susan Sarandon and Robert Wuhl - three of the principal actors from the popular baseball movie - will attend a screening next Wednesday night at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. Director Ron Shelton also will attend.

Robbins and Sarandon were scheduled to appear April 26-27 at the baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, N.Y., to commemorate the anniversary of the film's release. But Hall president Dale Petroskey canceled the event because of couple's anti-war statements and activities in protest of the U.S.-led war in Iraq.

Petroskey later said he erred by bringing politics into the Hall of Fame, and for not calling Robbins and Sarandon instead of sending them a letter informing them of the cancellation.

In a statement Thursday, Robbins said Brooklyn was an appropriate place to honor the film.

"From Jackie Robinson, Roy Campanella, Gil Hodges and Sandy Koufax to the Cyclones, Brooklyn's glorious baseball heritage makes it a fitting place for the 'Bull Durham' celebration," Robbins said.

The 1988 film stars Kevin Costner as an aging minor league catcher brought in by the Durham Bulls to teach the game to a headstrong young pitcher, "Nuke LaLoosh," played by Robbins.

Brooklyn Academy of Music president Karen Brooks Hopkins called it "one of film's great love letters to America's game."

Two days after the screening, Robbins and Sarandon will appear on the HBO program "On The Record With Bob Costas" to discuss the movie and the dispute with the Hall of Fame.
