MINNEAPOLIS - Bernie Williams hit a two-run homer and Raul Mondesi hit a solo shot as New York showed off more power.

Andy Pettitte (3-0) pitched 7 1-3 innings to run the rotation's record to 12-0 - the longest season-opening streak in the last 50 years, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. New York is off to a franchise-best 14-3 start.

The Yankees also beat the Twins for the 11th straight time over the past two seasons, outhomering Minnesota 25-2 in that span.

Twins center fielder Torii Hunter gave the crowd of 36,139 at least something to cheer about by going 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and an amazing homer-robbing catch.

Royals 9, Tigers 2

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Desi Relaford homered and Raul Ibanez had a two-run single in a five-run third inning as the Kansas City Royals beat Detroit 9-2 Saturday to hand the Tigers their 15th loss in 16 games this season.

Angel Berroa had three hits and scored two runs for the Royals, who improved to 7-0 at Kauffman Stadium this season and are the last remaining undefeated team at home in the majors. Their 13-3 start is the best in club history after 16 games.

The Tigers are 0-4 against Kansas City this season and are off to the worst start in franchise history and the worst in baseball since the Royals went 1-16 in 1992.

Albie Lopez (3-0) pitched five scoreless innings in place of starter Jeremy Affeldt, who left after three innings with a blister.

Gary Knotts (0-2) took the loss.

Athletics 12, Rangers 2

OAKLAND, Calif. - Mark Mulder pitched seven strong innings and Miguel Tejada and Scott Hatteberg homered as Oakland defeated Texas.

Mulder (2-1) gave up two runs on five hits, striking out five and walking two.

Eric Chavez had three hits, including a single that followed Tejada's fourth-inning homer that chased Ismael Valdes (2-2).

Rafael Palmeiro and Carl Everett each homered for Texas, which lost its fourth straight road game.

Red Sox 7, Blue Jays 2

BOSTON - Trot Nixon and Todd Walker each drove in two runs during Boston's five-run third inning as the Red Sox won their sixth straight game.

Toronto has lost three straight games and nine of 10. The Blue Jays, who entered as the AL's worst fielding team, committed three errors that led to three unearned runs.

Derek Lowe (3-1) gave up two unearned runs and seven hits in five innings. He escaped a pair of bases-loaded jams in the first four innings.

Tanyon Sturtze (2-1) took the loss.

White Sox 12, Indians 3

CHICAGO - Rookie Josh Stewart got his first major league win and D'Angelo Jimenez had four hits as Chicago scored six unearned runs in the first off Brian Anderson (2-2) and beat Cleveland.

Jimenez had two hits in the opening inning and drove in three runs. Magglio Ordonez homered in the fourth and extended his hitting streak to 15 games, longest in the AL this season.

Carlos Lee hit a three-run homer in the eighth to close the scoring for Chicago.

Stewart (1-1), who pitched out of a jam in the top of the first, allowed five hits and two run in six innings as the White Sox won for the 11th time in 14 games.

Devil Rays 8, Orioles 7

BALTIMORE - Jorge Sosa (1-1) allowed three hits in five innings to become the first Tampa Bay starting pitcher to win a game this season as the Devil Rays hung on to beat Baltimore.

Tampa Bay starters hadn't recorded a victory in the first 16 games. That's the deepest into the season since the 1992 Kansas City Royals, who got their first win from a starting pitcher in their 18th game.

The Devil Rays almost blew it, allowing four runs in the ninth inning before holding on for the win.

George Lombard, Aubrey Huff and Damion Easley homered for the Devil Rays.

Rodrigo Lopez (0-3) gave up seven runs and eight hits in 5 1-3 innings.

Angels 7, Mariners 6

ANAHEIM, Calif. - Tim Salmon hit a tying single in a three-run ninth, and an error by third baseman Mark McLemore allowing the winning run to score.

Anaheim trailed 6-1 in the fourth and was down 6-4 when Kazuhiro Sasaki (1-1) relieved to start the ninth.

After RBI singles by David Eckstein and Salmon, Anaheim moved up the runners with a double steal, and Troy Glaus' grounder skipped through the legs of McLemore.

Francisco Rodriguez (2-1) pitched two hitless innings.
