CHICAGO - A judge set bond at $250,000 on Thursday for a man who attacked an umpire during a Chicago White Sox game.
Eric Dybas of Bolingbrook, Ill., was charged with one count of felony aggravated battery and one count of misdemeanor criminal trespass.
Dybas, 24, came out of the stands and grabbed umpire Laz Diaz around the legs during Tuesday night's game between the White Sox and Kansas City Royals.
Dybas was the fourth fan to run onto the field that night. The other three did not attack anyone and were charged with misdemeanor trespassing.
Dybas appeared in court Thursday with his lawyer. Cook County Judge Nicholas Ford called Dybas' actions disturbing and said nobody should be subjected to violent acts at a ballpark.
Defense attorney Frank Kostouros said his client has an alcohol problem and his behavior was a result of that. The lawyer also said Dybas is sorry for what he did.
DIAMONDBACKS: Arizona won't know whether Randy Johnson will be able to make his next scheduled start, set for Tuesday at Montreal, until at least Saturday.
Johnson was supposed to pitch Wednesday night against Colorado but was sidelined by swelling under his right kneecap. The problem first bothered Johnson after his start last Friday night, then flared up again after his regular bullpen session Monday.
RANGERS: Texas placed outfielder Doug Glanville on the 15-day disabled list because of a strained right hamstring. The Rangers activated outfielder Kevin Mench.
Glanville, who is batting .200, was injured running out a grounder in Monday's 4-0 win over Anaheim. The move to the disabled list is retroactive to Tuesday.
Mench had been on the disabled list since straining a muscle in his right side March 20.
PADRES: Catcher Gary Bennett was placed on the 15-day disabled list after being bowled over at the plate by Los Angeles' Brian Jordan Wednesday. Bennett sprained his right knee in the collision with Jordan, a former NFL defensive back.
Bennett hit .282 with five RBI in 12 games, making 11 starts.
LIMA SIGNS: Former major-league pitcher Jose Lima signed with the Newark Bears of the independent Atlantic League.
Lima made the NL All-Star team in 1999, when he went 21-10 with a 3.58 ERA and 187 strikeouts for Houston. But the 30-year-old right-hander was 7-16 with a 6.65 ERA in 2000 and he split the following season between Houston and Detroit, going 6-12 with a 5.56 ERA. He was released by the Tigers last season with a 4-6 record and a 7.77 ERA.
