Indians to honor OSU football team

The Associated Press

CLEVELAND - The Cleveland Indians have designated May 3 as "Ohio State Buckeye Day" at Jacobs Field when the 2002 NCAA football champions will be honored.

The Indians announced Wednesday that Ohio State seniors Michael Doss, Cie Grant, Andy Groom, Donnie Nickey, Kenny Peterson and Matt Wilhelm are scheduled to attend.

They'll share duties of throwing out the ceremonial first pitch before Cleveland plays the Texas Rangers at 1:05 p.m.

"We felt it would be fun to salute OSU's national champions, especially those athletes on the team from northeast Ohio," Indians spokesman Bob DiBiasio said. "It should be a real fun Saturday afternoon."

Grant is scheduled to sing the national anthem, the OSU Alumni Band will perform before and during the game, and other Buckeyes players, cheerleaders and members of the coaching staff will be in attendance.
