They wore red tops, with white piping and white numbers, and white pants with no pinstripes for the exhibition game Friday against the Cleveland Indians at Great American Ball Park.

The new look was not announced beforehand.

The new uniforms are the Reds' third uniform. They'll wear them on Sundays and holidays.

They'll wear the same home uniforms they wore last year for the majority of home games.

The road uniforms remain the same.

REYNOLDS? Shane Reynolds, the starter the Houston Astros just released, is the type of reclamation project Reds general manager Jim Bowden loves.

So are the Reds interested?

"No comment," Bowden said.

That is not a "no."

One Reds insider said Reynolds is the kind of player the Reds can't afford not to consider.

Reynolds, a 35-year-old right-hander, is 103-86 in his 11-year career.

He went 3-6 last year in a season cut short by back surgery.

He was 14-11 with a 4.34 ERA in 2001. His best year was 1999 when he went 19-8 with a 3.51 ERA.

Reynolds was 0-1 with a 5.87 ERA in five starts this spring.

IT'S BIG: Reds manager Bob Boone walks an hour a day to keep in shape.

He thinks working in Great American Ball Park will take care of that.

"If I want to talk to Reggie Taylor, I've got to send three clubhouse guys to find him," Boone said. "It's 100 yards from my office to the clubhouse."

A FLOOD: One of the Reds' indoor batting cages was flooded just before the Reds took batting practice.

"We've got three of them," Boone said. "So we're all right."

SULLY ON THE MOUND: The first thing Scott Sullivan did at Great American was check out the mound.

"That's where I work," he said. "I wanted to make sure it's the same as the bullpen mound."

Sullivan thinks it's OK.

"It felt good," he said. "It felt solid."

WILSON UPDATE: Pitcher Paul Wilson, delayed this spring by a strained rib-cage muscle and pulled hamstring, threw 73 pitches over 4 2/3 innings in a minor-league game Friday in Sarasota, Fla.

He is expected to participate in Opening Day ceremonies Monday before flying back to Florida for another minor-league start Tuesday.

If Wilson experiences no setbacks before then, he will be scheduled to start against the Cubs on April 6.

MOUND MUSING: The pitcher's mound at Great American Ball Park drew much attention prior to Friday's exhibition.

Bowden, Boone, pitching coach Don Gullett and grounds crew members gathered around the mound for several minutes, apparently to discuss the mound's shape and height.

"They say it's regulation," Gullett said.
