KISSIMMEE, Fla. - The Houston Astros signed left-hander Bruce Chen to a minor league contract Friday.
Chen was set to report to the Astros' major league camp on Saturday.
"He is tough on left-handers so we'll take a look at him in our bullpen," Astros manager Jimy Williams said.
The Cincinnati Reds released Chen on Monday. He was 0-2 with a 4.31 ERA with the Reds last season, after being traded from the Expos for Reds long reliever Jim Brower in mid-June.
Overall, Chen has a 20-18 record and 4.53 ERA during parts of five major league seasons.
