Ballpark sculpture takes shape
(Michael E. Keating photo) | ZOOM |
The relief sculpture adorning the western wall of the Reds executive offices at Great American Ball Park is nearing completion.
Called "The Spirit of Baseball," the limestone artwork is 50 feet tall and weighs 165 tons. The sculpture depicts three ballplayers along with Cincinnati landmarks such as the Roebling Suspension Bridge, the PNC Bank building and the Museum Center.
The Reds, who are paying for the sculpture, have declined to say how much it costs, but the limestone itself costs about $50,000.
Ray Berberich is the designer and manager for the project.
Opening Day is March 31.
