Rijo, Hamilton reject arbitration

The Associated Press

Veteran right-handers Jose Rijo and Joey Hamilton rejected arbitration, but they can still be re-signed to major-league contracts until midnight Jan. 8.

If they don't sign by Jan. 8, they cannot be signed by the Reds to a major-league contract until May 1.

Today, the Reds must tender contracts to their six arbitration-eligible players. Pitchers Bruce Chen, Ryan Dempster, Danny Graves, Scott Williamson, third baseman Aaron Boone and catcher Jason LaRue will become free agents if the Reds don't tender them offers.
