The Reds unveiled a new mascot Friday night at Redsfest. It's red, fat and furry. It looks like, well, a cross between a bird and a dinosaur. And it remains nameless.

In a newspaper article originally published Saturday, Dec. 7, The Enquirer announced a contest to name the new mascot. That contest has been temporarily postponed.

MORE ON GABP: The Reds will begin an ad campaign next week to help sell season tickets at the team's new park.

"There are two (television) spots," Reds marketing director Cal Levy said. "One is on the premier seats. It was shot from an angle of seats in the club and diamond sections. The other spot will highlight the various season-ticket packages. This isn't part of a spot, but the average ticket price is only 53 cents more than it was at Cinergy. Little by little, we're getting that word out."

OLDER ELMER: Reds right-hander Elmer Dessens is actually 31, not 30 as previously thought. He was born Jan. 13, 1971 - not Jan. 3, 1972.

It wasn't an attempt at deception by Dessens. It was merely a mistake in the media guide.

The new mascot will assist Mr. Red, not replace him.
