NEW YORK - Reds outfielder Austin Kearns was a unanimous selection on the major-league rookie all-star team Wednesday.
Kearns, 22, hit a team-high .315 with 13 home runs and 56 RBI. He also had 24 doubles, six stolen bases and a .407 on-base percentage in 107 games.
Kearns made his major-league debut April 17 and was a regular until his season ended prematurely Aug.27 because of a hamstring injury.
Colorado right-hander Jason Jennings and Toronto third baseman Eric Hinske, the NL and AL rookies of the year, topped the team.
Jennings was 16-8 with a 4.52 ERA while Hinske hit .279 with 24 homers and 84 RBI.
New York Yankees first baseman Nick Johnson (.243, 15 homers, 58 RBI), Oakland second baseman Mark Ellis (.272, 6, 35), Detroit shortstop Ramon Santiago (.243, 4, 20) and Baltimore catcher Geronimo Gil (.232, 12, 45) also were selected. The outfielders were Kearns, Montreal's Brad Wilkerson (.266, 20, 59) and Milwaukee's Alex Sanchez (.289, 1, 33).
Damian Moss of Atlanta (12-6, 3.42) was the left-handed pitcher.
The team was announced by The Topps Co., which has organized the voting since 1959.
