Reds trainer Lynn resigns

By John Fay jfay@enquirer.com
The Cincinnati Enquirer

CHICAGO - Greg Lynn, the Reds' head trainer for 10 years and the man responsible for shaping the team's medical department, resigned Thursday.

“I'm ready to move on,” Lynn, 41, said. “It's a tough lifestyle. I have a wife and three kids. It's time to evaluate what's really important. I'm happy with the move.”

Lynn was popular with the players, and team medical director Dr.Tim Kremchek credited Lynn with turning around the Reds' training department.

“I think Greg realized in 1993 that we were far behind the rest of baseball,” Kremchek said. “He had a vision and he realized it. It didn't all happen right away. But he pieced it together. Now we clearly have one of the best training programs, not only in major-league baseball, but in all of sports.”

Lynn will stay on with the Reds through the end of the year to help with the transition to Great American Ball Park.

Lynn said he will pursue interests outside baseball and remain in the Cincinnati area.

“I can't say specifically, because (plans) haven't been finalized,” Lynn said.

There's a chance he could end up working with Kremchek in some capacity.

“Most high school and college trainers learn to deal with football, basketball and wrestling injuries,” Kremchek said. “Greg has a lot of experience with baseball and throwing athletes.”
