Steep ticket prices for Cinergy farewell

As the Reds' final series at Cinergy Field approaches, diehard fans are paying up to $500 to watch the historic final moments.

Those without tickets who want to attend next Sunday's sold-out finale will have to open their wallets wide. The least expensive tickets available from online ticket broker Frontrow.com are standing-room-only in the $50 range. The priciest are box seats going for $500.

SPECIAL COVERAGE
This week the Enquirer looks ahead to next Sunday's final Reds game at Cinergy Field with special stories and coverage. Then, next Sunday and Monday, you can celebrate the stadium's past through our special commemorative sections.
Coming Monday: The real legacy of Riverfront Stadium is how it changed the riverfront and downtown Cincinnati.
Doug Brownlee, 54, of Anderson Township will attend Saturday and Sunday's games against Philadelphia. He paid $11 per ticket at Hader Hardware for the final game, but said they are the worst seats he's ever had — the last row behind the right field foul pole.

On the Internet auction site eBay, prices for the series range from $30 for red seats to more than $200 for blue seats.

The Reds raised the face value of all tickets by $3 for the final series. Friday is the only game not sold out.

Ticket brokers' prices went up even more. For example, a ticket for today's game against the Chicago Cubs in Section 157, Row 14 costs $130. A ticket in the same section, four rows back, for the final game is going for $405.

For Friday's game, that ticket is $205 from Frontrow.com. Face value for all tickets in Section 157 is $32 for a regular game or $35 for the final series, but the Reds box office is sold out of them.
