Dunn under .200 for second half

The Cincinnati Enquirer

Reds outfielder Adam Dunn went 1-for-4 with a double and two strikeouts Saturday. At least he got a hit.

Dunn is mired in a slump that has plagued him the second half of the season. He came into Saturday's game hitting .193 in the second half and has increased his Reds single-season record for strikeouts to 156.

“I don't have a clue what's wrong,” Dunn said. “I'd like to think I'll get out of it before the season ends, but it's not something that will bother me next year or throughout my career.”

Before the All-Star break, Dunn hit .300 with 17 homers and 54 RBI. Since then, he has eight home runs and 15 RBI.

Boone said Dunn's struggles at the plate could be a positive if he learns from them.

“When you have it easy early on, you don't have respect for how hard this game really is,” Boone said. “This is showing him how hard he has to work, and I expect him to have an outstanding year next year.”
