HOUSTON - Right-handers Elmer Dessens (groin) and Scott Sullivan (shoulder) will throw today. If all goes well, they will be activated from the disabled list Tuesday when the Reds return home to start a four-game series with the St. Louis Cardinals.

Dessens will start one of the games in Tuesday's doubleheader, and there's a chance Sullivan could be activated Sunday.

“We'll probably wait until after the off day (Monday),” maanger Bob Boone said, “but he looked pretty good (Thursday).”

DUNN ENDS 0-FER: Adam Dunn didn't start Friday's game but entered in the sixth inning. His single in the ninth ended an 0-for-27 hitless stretch. His average has dropped to .268.

“I'm giving him the proverbial mental break,” Boone said. “I keep hoping he'll come out of it, but I haven't seen any signs. Maybe the home cooking will help.”

        Dunn is from suburban Houston.

LATEST RIJO PROJECT: Jose Rijo is adding a rehabilitation clinic to his Dominican Republic baseball complex and hopes to open it in November. Rijo has bought barbells, an ultrasound machine and a whirlpool.

The right-hander also plans to bring Reds conditioning coach Carlo Alvarez and physical therapist Lonnie Soloff to the camp to instruct his staff.

“(Reds medical director Dr. Tim) Kremchek is helping me,' ' Rijo said. “There's no rehab facility in the Dominican. Pedro (Martinez) wanted to rehab last year in the Dominican. He had to do it the United States.”

Rijo plans to charge major-leaguers to rehab there, but “it'll be free for Reds,” he said.

Rijo's Loma del Sueno (Hill of Dreams) academy serves 1,600 Dominican youth players. It is also home to the Reds' Dominican League team.

“I'll put it up against any major-league (spring training) facility,” Rijo said. “It has everything but the (big stadium).”

FARM REPORT: Dayton right-hander Bobby Basham beat Cedar Rapids 5-2 on Thursday. He allowed no runs on two hits in 52/3 innings and lowered his ERA to 1.43.

UP NEXT: The Reds play the Astros in the second game of the three-game series at 1:15 p.m. today.Reds right-hander Jimmy Haynes (12-8, 4.42) faces Houston right-hander Wade Miller (11-3, 3.81).
