COLUMBUS, Ohio Billy McMillion hit a two-run homer to give the Columbus Clippers a 10-9 win in the 17th inning over the Louisville Bats in the International League on Monday.
The game last 5 hours and 17 minutes, just 21 minutes short of the Clippers' franchise record in 1997 against the Richmond Braves. The time broke the Bats' record by eight minutes.
Louisville held a 5-1 lead through four innings, but Columbus' Andy Phillips cut the lead to 5-4 with a two-run homer in the fifth. The teams went into extra innings tied 5-5 after Phillips hit an RBI single in the seventh.
McMillion went 3-for-8 with three RBIs and Phillips was 3-for-7 with three RBIs. For the Bats, Gookie Dawkins went 4-for-8 with two RBIs.
Nate Field (2-1) pitched the last three innings for the win, giving up three runs and striking out two.
Mike Edwards (0-1) hit his first Triple-A homer in the 17th, but gave up the Clippers' last two runs for the loss.
