Bats 3, Red Sox 1

Hermanson fares well in rehab start

The Associated Press

PAWTUCKET, R.I. — The Louisville Bats capitalized on late-inning errors by the Pawtucket Red Sox to rally for a 3-1 win Saturday.

Boston Red Sox righthander Dustin Hermanson, making his first rehab start, pitched the first three innings and faced just nine batters. He struck out one and hit another. He threw 41 pitches, 25 for strikes.

Hermanson reported no pain in the groin muscle he pulled during his only start of the season on since April 3. He's scheduled to relief pitch for Pawtucket on Tuesday and Thursday. He could return to Boston as early as next Saturday.

The Red Sox grabbed a 1-0 first inning lead when Rob Ryan homered for the second time in two games, this time off winning pitcher Jose Acevedo (6-6).

Casey Fossum (0-2) took over in the fourth inning. Fossum grabbed Dawkins' bunt and made a wild throw to third, allow Jesse Levins to score the tying run. Mike Stefanski later scored on Jeff Frye's sacrifice fly to right field.

Louisville added another unearned run in the ninth off Fossum. Frye's hard grounder skipped through third baseman Shane Andrews' legs for a two-base error, and Frye scored moments later on Chris Sexton's single.

Acevedo pitched seven innings and allowed just the one run on five hits while walking one and striking out seven. Trever Miller pitched a one-hit eighth inning, and Mike Neu worked a one-hit ninth — striking out three — for his 11th save.
