PCL All-Stars win Triple-A game

The Associated Press

OKLAHOMA CITY — Jack Cust of the Colorado Springs Sky Sox homered and drove in two runs, helping lead the Pacific Coast League to a 5-0 victory over the International League in the Triple-A All-Star game Wednesday night.

Cust, named the game's MVP, had an RBI single in the sixth inning when the PCL scored three times to break open a game that to had been dominated by the pitchers.

Losing pitcher Derrin Ebert got into trouble right away in the sixth, walking Bobby Hill of the Iowa Cubs to start the inning. Michael Ryan of Edmonton singled Hill to third, then Robb Quinlan of the Salt Lake Stingers singled to drive in the first run.

Cust followed with an RBI single. The other run came when Hank Blalock of the host Oklahoma RedHawks grounded into a double play.

Cust homered to left-center in the eighth inning off Lee Gardner of the Durham Bulls.

The PCL also scored in the seventh when Mendy Lopez of the Nashville Sounds doubled and scored on a single by Edwards Guzman of the Fresno Grizzlies.

Oklahoma right-hander Aaron Myette was named the game's outstanding pitcher. He started the game for the PCL and struck out the side.

The victory went to Shane Nance of Las Vegas, who pitched the sixth inning. The PCL used nine pitchers, tying a Triple-A All-Star game record set by both teams in the 2000 game.
