Reds Notebook: Sour feelings for Griffey

By Tom Groeschen tgroeschen@enquirer.com
The Cincinnati Enquirer

Ken Griffey Jr. was the object of two negative banners at Tuesday's game, one of which said “ NWOG (Nice With Out Griffey).” The other banner read: “Four tickets: $30. Four sodas: $10. Four hot dogs: $15. Ken Griffey Jr.: Worthless.”

The banners appeared and then quickly disappeared early in the game. Griffey, who is on the disabled list because of a strained right hamstring, was not available to comment.

The Reds are 13-20 when Griffey is active and 31-18 when he is not.

QUICK HITS: The Reds, Houston and Colorado are the only teams in the majors without a complete game by a starting pitcher in 2002. ... First baseman Sean Casey turned 28 on Tuesday. ... The Reds entered Tuesday 18-27 (.400) against teams currently at or over .500 and 26-10 (.727) against teams under .500. ... Brandon Larson hit his 21st homer of the season Monday night for Triple-A Louisville and is hitting .340, fourth-best in the International League.

UP NEXT: Right-hander Chris Reitsma (3-6, 3.60 ERA) faces Houston right-hander Roy Oswalt (8-5, 3.24) at 7:10 p.m. today. Reitsma is 0-6 with a 4.79 ERA in his last six starts.
