Inherited difference

One telling stat about Danny Graves' struggles with converting saves he's 20-of-26 this season after blowing seven chances all of last year is the number of inherited runners who have scored.
Before Friday, Graves had come into games with a total of 18 runners on base and 11 (61 percent) had scored.
That's well over twice the rate his two set-up men Scott Sullivan and Gabe White had allowed to score. Sullivan was 6-of-25 (24 percent) and White 4-of-25 (15 percent).
Graves only allowed 24 percent of inherited runners to score last year.
White and Sullivan are also better at getting the first batter they faced out. Graves had retired the first man 71 percent of the time, while Sullivan had done it 82 percent of the time and White 81 percent.
