Perez homer caps an epic comeback

Reds first baseman Tony Perez slammed a two-out, two-run homer off reliever Randy Moffitt to cap a five-run, ninth-inning rally to beat the Giants 14-13.
The Reds were one strike from defeat when Perez connected off Moffitt, who, by the way, is tennis star Billy Jean King's brother.
In a 1998 retrospective on his 25 years in the radio booth, Marty Brennaman listed this moment as one of his top five favorites.
I remember that game, he said. As a matter of fact, the other day we were talking and somebody came up with that moment and we mentioned Randy Moffitt.
That was a great comeback, one of the best.
Needless to say, it prompted a wild celebration by the Riverfront crowd.
The Giants would finish fourth that year but Moffitt was a solid reliever. He finished with 15 saves and pitched 102 innings.
He was one of the best relievers in the league, Brennaman He had good stuff, a fastball and a sinker.
The victory was one of the highlights of an outstanding season the Reds would go on to win 98 games and finish second, four games behind National League West champion Los Angeles (102-60).
More than anything, it was a hint of the magic to come in the 1975 and 1976 World Championship seasons.
