Perez homer caps an epic comeback

Reds first baseman Tony Perez slammed a two-out, two-run homer off reliever Randy Moffitt to cap a five-run, ninth-inning rally to beat the Giants 14-13.
The Reds were one strike from defeat when Perez connected off Moffitt, who, by the way, is tennis star Billy Jean King's brother.
In a 1998 retrospective on his 25 years in the radio booth, Marty Brennaman listed this moment as one of his top five favorites.
“I remember that game,” he said. “As a matter of fact, the other day we were talking and somebody came up with that moment and we mentioned Randy Moffitt.
“That was a great comeback, one of the best.”
Needless to say, it prompted a wild celebration by the Riverfront crowd.
The Giants would finish fourth that year but Moffitt was a solid reliever. He finished with 15 saves and pitched 102 innings.
“He was one of the best relievers in the league,” Brennaman “He had good stuff, a fastball and a sinker.”
The victory was one of the highlights of an outstanding season — the Reds would go on to win 98 games and finish second, four games behind National League West champion Los Angeles (102-60).
More than anything, it was a hint of the magic to come in the 1975 and 1976 World Championship seasons.
