LARKIN MILESTONES: Barry Larkin keeps climbing the Reds' charts. Larkin, who Thursday had his 7,000th big-league at-bat, is now fourth in Reds history, behind only Pete Rose, Dave Concepcion and Johnny Bench in that category.
Since the season began, Larkin has (entering Friday):
moved into third on the hits list at 2,083, passing Bench.
moved into fourth in total bases (3,156), passing Concepcion.
moved into fifth in extra-base hits (635), passing Vada Pinson.
Also, he needs only two doubles (380) to pass Bench for third.
Memorial memories
The old baseball bromide is that a team in first place on Memorial Day you have a good chance of staying there.
While the Reds are fighting to get to Monday in first place, here's a look at where the NL Central stood last Memorial Day, and how it finished:
