Tiger sympathizes with Griffey

DUBLIN, Ohio Earlier in his career, Tiger Woods got advice on how to handle his burgeoning fame from buddy Ken Griffey Jr. They live in the same gated community in Orlando, Fla., bordering the Isleworth Country Club.
Woods said Wednesday he hasn't talked lately to the Reds center fielder but feels for his friend because of the injuries and trade speculation that have dogged Griffey recently.
I certainly sympathize with what he's going through, with a lot of the speculation from the media and the fans, Woods said. "And it's not an easy situation that he's in.
But I think once he starts playing, I think he'll start feeling a lot better. Because he's been competing all of his life and ... he's (rarely) had an injury, and all of a sudden he's had two major injuries. He's had to sit out and watch his teammates play, and one of the toughest things to do is watch. Especially when you're used to competing.
Griffey, rehabilitating a knee injury suffered in the season's sixth game, is expected to be activated this weekend.
