Marlins pitchers getting slammed
The Associated Press
The Florida Marlins are serving up grand slams even faster than the Reds are hitting them four in the last nine games.
It's kind of weird, said Ryan Dempster (2-5), who gave up Todd Walker's blast in the Reds' 6-2 win Wednesday night.
The Marlins are 2-7 on a 14-game trip that's the longest in team history and feels longer each time a ball clears the wall.
The Marlins have given up 20 homers in the nine road games, four of them grand slams. As a result, Florida has slid back to .500 (23-23) for the first time since May 4.
The only consolation is that Florida is only one game out of first in the NL East.
We're lucky to be sitting where we are, manager Jeff Torborg said. We've had a miserable road trip.
