NL roundup
The Associated Press
SAN FRANCISCO Barry Bonds homered twice to move within one of Mark McGwire for fifth place all-time, leading the San Francisco Giants to a 10-5 victory over the Florida Marlins on Saturday.
Bonds went 3-for-3 with two walks, giving him 582 career homers. He hit a two-run shot against Brad Penny (3-3) in the second inning and a solo shot off Vic Darensbourg in the sixth to give him 15 homers this season and tie Lance Berkman and Sammy Sosa for the major league lead. David Bell had three hits, including a homer, and drove in two runs.
Kirk Rueter (6-1) won his sixth straight decision, the longest streak of his career, allowing three runs in seven innings. Robb Nen came on with one out and the bases loaded in the ninth and got his 14th save.
Marlins shortstop Alex Gonzalez was forced out of the game with a dislocated left shoulder. He was injured going after a hit by Bonds in the third.
Rockies 7, Braves 3
DENVER Denny Stark made his second strong start for Colorado and added a two-run homer for his first career hit.
Jose Ortiz was 4-for-4, and Bobby Estalella drove in three runs as Colorado won for the eighth time in 12 games. The Rockies are 10-2 at home since Clint Hurdle replaced Buddy Bell as manager on April 26.
Stark (2-0) has been dominant since being called up Monday from Triple-A Colorado Springs. He allowed one run on four hits and struck out five in seven innings. He pitched six scoreless innings in a 7-3 victory Monday over Florida.
Kevin Millwood (2-5) hit his second career homer, but continued to struggle on the mound. He allowed seven runs five earned and seven hits in four innings for his fourth straight loss. Millwood has not won since April 17, when he relieved Greg Maddux in a 2-1 victory over the New York Mets.
Diamondbacks 5, Phillies 4
PHOENIX Junior Spivey homered off Jose Mesa (1-3) in the bottom of the ninth inning, and Erubiel Durazo hit his fourth home run in two nights as Arizona rallied again to beat Philadelphia.
Durazo's home run tied it at 4 in the seventh. In his first three games of the season, Durazo is 6-for-11 with two doubles, four homers and 11 RBIs. He hit three homers and drove in nine runs Friday night the most in the majors in three years.
Luis Gonzalez added a two-run homer for Arizona.
Curt Schilling, trying to become the season's first nine-game winner, struck out 12 in eight innings but gave up four runs in the third and a season-high 10 hits in all. He is yet to beat his former team.
The Phillies fell to 0-6 on their road trip and 3-18 away from home overall.
Mike Myers (3-1) got the victory.
Mets 5, Padres 2
SAN DIEGO Roberto Alomar hit a two-run homer in a four-run first inning, and New York won its fifth straight game.
Joe McEwing added a two-run single in the first as the Mets jumped on San Diego starter Brett Tomko (3-3) on night after beating the Padres 13-4 for their highest-scoring game of the season.
Shawn Estes (2-4) gave up two runs on seven hits in six innings to improve to 11-4 in his career against the Padres. He stayed in the game despite being struck twice by balls hit up the middle.
David Weathers and Scott Strickland each worked a scoreless inning of relief, and Armando Benitez pitched a perfect ninth for his eighth save in as many chances.
Expos 3, Dodgers 1
LOS ANGELES Fernando Tatis and Orlando Cabrera homered, and Carl Pavano pitched into the eighth inning as Montreal ended a five-game losing streak.
Pavano (3-5) allowed one run and six hits in 7 1-3 innings. He got a break in the second on a blown call by first base umpire Tim McClelland, who ruled that two-time Gold Glove right fielder Vladimir Guerrero made a diving catch of Mark Grudzielanek's sinking liner before doubling Lo Duca off second. TV replays showed Guerrero trapped the ball.
Odalis Perez (4-2) lost for the first time in eight starts since his Dodgers debut April 4, allowing three runs on six hits in six innings. The left-hander had allowed no more than two earned runs in any of his previous seven starts.
Astros 2, Pirates 1
HOUSTON Jose Vizcaino hit a game-winning homer with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning, giving the Astros their seventh straight win.
Vizcaino hit the first pitch from Sean Lowe (1-2) to extend Houston's longest winning streak in three seasons. It was Vizcaino's first homer since June 15 and just his second since June 4, 1999.
Reliever Octavio Dotel (2-1) pitched two hitless innings as Houston handed Pittsburgh it fourth straight loss and sixth in the seven games. Jeff Bagwell drove in the Astros' first run with a sacrifice fly in the first inning.
Brewers 3, Cubs 1
MILWAUKEE Jose Cabrera pitched five scoreless innings in his second career start, and the Brewers handed Chicago its ninth straight loss.
Sammy Sosa came up with two men on in the seventh and a chance to tie it with a homer, but reliever Luis Vizcaino struck him out on four pitches. With two on and one out in the ninth, Mike DeJean got Sosa on a groundout.
Cabrera (2-4) allowed four hits, walked two and struck out four as the Brewers beat Jon Lieber (3-3) for the second time in six days.
After first baseman Fred McGriff's two-base throwing error on a hopper by Paul Bako in the third inning, Alex Sanchez hit an RBI single and later scored on Jeffrey Hammonds' groundout.
