Reds Notebook: Sullivan gets rest

MILWAUKEE Scott Sullivan's brush with disaster has resulted in two or three days off.
Sullivan's right arm the target of Richie Sexson's smash grounder Monday was much better than expected.
I was very pleased with the way it felt when I woke up, Sullivan said.
Sullivan stayed up until 2 a.m. icing the arm after Monday's game. It felt so good Tuesday that Sullivan wanted to play catch.
That was vetoed by everybody, he said. I'll try it (Wednesday). It's only going to be a couple days.
Sullivan could use the break. He's on pace to throw 112 innings and appear in the 105 games. Sullivan threw 113 2/3 innings in 1999, and his high for appearances is 79, a mark he has reached each of the last three seasons.
MORE MILLER: Corky Miller's start Tuesday makes him the Reds' No.1 catcher, three starting pitchers to two.
He's been catching (Jose) Rijo and (Chris) Reitsma, Boone said. Now he's catching (Jose) Acevedo.
Acevedo's stay in the rotation may last only until Joey Hamilton returns, but for now Miller is going to catch three of every five Reds games.
He's hitting .361 with two homers and nine RBI in 12 games this season. The Reds are 9-3 in his 12 starts.
Jason LaRue is hitting .253 with no homers and eight RBI in 27 games, and the Reds are 14-11 with a 3.63 ERA in his 25 starts.
SECOND CHANCE: The Reds will give away Faces of Riverfront posters again, on Wednesday, June 5, to the first 10,000 fans attending that night's 7:10 p.m. game against St. Louis. The poster features 68 faces of players from the Riverfront Stadium/Cinergy Field era.
DOWN ON THE FARM: Wily Mo Pena continues to swing a hot bat at Double-A Chattanooga since coming back from an injured quadriceps. Pena was 3-for-5 with two home runs Monday and is 6-for-14 with three homers and four RBI in his first three games back.
Also at Chattanooga, shortstop Ranier Olmedo went 2-for-5 Monday to extend his hitting to eight games. He is hitting .417 in the streak, lifting his season average to .255. If Juan Castro isn't ready soon, the Reds might consider having Olmedo and Gookie Dawkins switch places. Dawkins went into Tuesday hitless in his last 15 at-bats.
UP NEXT: Right-hander Jimmy Haynes (2-4, 4.71) starts against his former club, facing Milwaukee right-hander Everett Stull (0-0, 7.20).
It will be a little different, Haynes said. But I'll try to pitch the same way I always do.
