M's Sasaki signs 2-year extension

SEATTLE Seattle Mariners closer Kazuhiro Sasaki signed a two-year contract extension Saturday that takes him through the 2004 season and includes an option for a third year. Terms were not disclosed.
Sasaki joined the team Saturday from Yokohama, Japan, where he went Thursday after his wife, Kaori, became ill.
Sasaki, 34, a right-hander, would have been eligible for free agency after this season. He has has given up only two unearned runs in 13 2/3 innings this season and seven saves in nine opportunities.
Sasaki was the AL's rookie of the year in 2000 and set a major-league rookie mark with 37 saves. In 2001, he set a team record with 45 saves.
EXPOS: Free agent Wil Cordero signed with the team Saturday. He was released by Cleveland on April 29 and has 999 career hits.
BLUE JAYS: Right-hander Steve Parris, who had shoulder surgery in September, threw five no-hit innings in Dunedin, Fla. Right-hander Esteban Loaiza, recovering from a shoulder injury, threw on the sidelines and will rejoin the Jays Tuesday.
