The arms: Today RHP Jimmy Haynes (2-4, 4.94 ERA) vs. RHP Jason Simontacchi (1-0, 2.57); Saturday RHP Chris Reitsma (1-0, 3.49) vs. RHP Darryl Kile (1-2, 3.75); Sunday RHP Elmer Dessens (2-3, 2.05 ERA) vs. LHP Bud Smith (0-3, 9.72).
The bats: After being swept by the Giants last week, the Reds swept Milwaukee this week. Cardinals manager Tony LaRussa mixed up his slumping lineup Tuesday, benching third baseman Placido Polanco (.260), whose batting average started to drop in mid-April. Outfielder Jim Edmonds leads St. Louis in home runs (eight), RBI (23) and batting (.351).
The rest: First baseman Sean Casey (strained hamstring) has been cleared to play by Reds medical director Dr. Tim Kremcheck.
