Pittsburgh gets injured Pokey back
Baseball Notebook
The Associated Press
The Pittsburgh Pirates activated second baseman Pokey Reese from the 15-day disabled list Sunday.
Reese hasn't played since April 19 because of a strained right hamstring he suffered while running out a ground ball against Philadelphia.
Reese, 28, is hitting .317 with seven RBI for the Pirates, who are in second place in the National League Central Division.
Reese went 0-for-3 with a walk Sunday against the Padres.
SHORT HOPS: Toronto's Shannon Stewart missed his fifth straight game with sore hamstrings. Manager Buck Martinez said Stewart probably would play Tuesday in Seattle.
Rangers outfielder Juan Gonzalez, sidelined since April11 with torn muscle fibers between his thumb and index finger of his right hand, will see hand specialist Dr. Bobby Wroten today in Fort Worth. Gonzalez, who has played in only seven games, still can't swing a bat.
Boston outfielder Johnny Damon stole his 10th base of the season Sunday. Carl Everett led the Red Sox with nine stolen bases last season.
A's closer Billy Koch has retired 25 of 27 batters over his last nine outings.
Colorado won six in a row under manager Clint Hurdle before being swept by Philadelphia. It's how the game is, Hurdle said. We won six straight, but that didn't mean we're world champions. Now we lost six straight and it doesn't mean we're the worst team.
