Reds Notebook: Shaw talks back on

LOS ANGELES The Reds have re-entered the Jeff Shaw talks. Reds general manager Jim Bowden called Joe Bick, Shaw's agent, on Sunday and told Bick the Reds were still interested in Shaw.
I talked to Jeff, Bick said. He said he'd still like to pitch for the Reds and has all along. I told Jim that. We're supposed to meet when Jim gets back from the West Coast.
Bowden was in San Francisco scouting a high school pitcher.
Bowden could not be each for comment.
RUMOR MILL: Cleveland Indians assistant gen eral manager Neal Huntington told a Cleveland writer that he had not heard anything about a trade involving the Reds and Indians.
There had been a published report about a trade that would send Danny Graves and Juan Encarnacion to the Indians for starting pitcher Bartolo Colon.
The Indians could use a right-handed hitting outfielder, but they just signed closer Bob Wickman to a three-year deal that pays him $3.4 million this year.
TAYLOR, NOT MATEO: With Austin Kearns out of the lineup, Reggie Taylor started in the center field and Encarnacion in right.
Ruben Mateo has made only one start since April 18 the day after Kearns was called up.
I thought about Mateo, Boone said. But my first thought was Taylor. I went with my gut.
RIEDLING REACTIVATED: Right-hander John Riedling was reinstated from the 15-day disabled list and optioned to Double-A Chattanooga Wednesday.
Riedling, who was rehabbing his shoulder after August surgery, is in the same position as Lance Davis. They are regular minor leaguers. They can stay with Chattanooga as long as necessary.
Riedling is 4-2 with a 2.39 ERA in 42 games for the Reds over the last two years. And he has great stuff. The Reds will find a place for him when he's ready, and he's close.
He just has to show us he's better than the other 11 or 12, Boone said.
Riedling threw to hitters in extended spring training in Florida Tuesday.
I just heard (he was going to Chattanooga). I was tickled, Boone said. He must be 100 percent.
UP NEXT: The Reds wrap up the three-game series and their only trip to LA with a 10:10 p.m. game (Fox Sports Net) with the Dodgers tonight.
Right-hander Elmer Dessens (1-3, 1.80) face left-hander Odalis Perez (3-1, 1.64.
Dessens has given up only two earned runs in his last four starts (26 1/3 innings, 0.68 ERA).
Perez allowed only one hit in a 10-0 victory over the Chicago Cubs Friday.
