Reds Notebook: Rehabbing pitchers test arms

It looked like a tryout day Tuesday at Cinergy Field. First Brian Bohanon, then Lance Davis, then Jose Silva threw off the mound as Reds brass looked on.
The three are on the disabled list. Tuesday was the first time any of them had thrown off the mound during their rehab.
They all looked pretty good, manager Bob Boone said. They were all free and easy. There was certainly no pain. It's a matter of building up arm strength. It's like the first day of spring training for them.
Silva and Davis threw 30 pitches each. Bohanon threw four innings of 15 pitches in a simulated game.
Silva and Davis will throw again Thursday, upping it to 45 pitches. The Reds are going to give Bohanon some more time off. He might throw again Saturday.
He's thrown 150, 160 pitches in the last seven days, pitching coach Don Gullett said. That's a lot for someone who is healthy, much less someone coming off surgery.
Bohanon had elbow surgery March 11 to remove bone spurs. Silva had elbow surgery March 4 to remove bone chips. Davis has muscle weakness in his left (pitching) shoulder.
NO CASEY: Sean Casey missed his second straight start since getting hit in the head by a pitch from Robert Person in Philadelphia Saturday.
He was cleared by the ear, nose and throat doctor, Boone said. But he feels pressure when he exerts himself.
Boone wasn't sure when Casey would return.
It's a day-to-day thing, Boone said. He's a lot better than he was two days ago.
KNIGHT OUT: Ray Knight is expected to miss the entire Houston series after his father-in-law died Monday. The funeral for Nancy Lopez's father, Domingo, 87, will be today in Roswell, N.M.
HAMILTON'S OWN: Ricky Stone, a 1994 graduate of Hamilton High, is a reliever with the Astros. Stone entered Tuesday with a 1-1 record and 2.00 ERA. He leads Houston with eight appearances.
Stone, 26, was a fourth-round pick of the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1994. The Astros signed him as a minor-league free agent after the 2000 season.
He finished the game for the Astros Tuesday, getting the final two outs in the 8-3 win.
