Reds notes: Regulars get rest; bullpen dominates
Relievers run scoreless streak to 21 1/3 innings

PHILADELPHIA Sunday's lineup might have gotten the Reds in trouble during spring training because it didn't have four regulars in it.
Sean Casey was out after being hit on the head by a pitch Saturday. Reds manager Bob Boone also rested Barry Larkin, Jason LaRue and Aaron Boone. (Boone did pinch hit and play shortstop).
So the starting lineup was: Reggie Taylor, left field; Wilton Guerrero, third base; Juan Encarnacion, center field; Adam Dunn, first base; Todd Walker, second base; Ruben Mateo, right field; Gookie Dawkins, shortstop; and Corky Miller, catcher.
I wanted to give Larkin the day, and Aaron could use a blow, Bob Boone said. This way they get two days (with the off day today). And I have a lot of confidence in Wilton.
Guerrero entered Sunday hitting .400.
RARE TERRITORY: The Reds relievers extended their streak of scoreless innings to 21 1/3 with two more shutout innings Sunday. That's the longest since July12 to July17, 1998, when the Reds went 21 2/3 innings without allowing a run.
I expected them to be good, Boone said. But you never expect them to be this good.
PRAISE FOR WALKER: The Reds have not been a good fielding team this year, but Boone went out of his way to praise second baseman Todd Walker.
He's 1,000 percent better, Boone said. I'm real pleased with him. He's so much better at turning the double play.
DOWN ON THE FARM: Austin Kearns hit his first home run of the season in Double-A Chattanooga's 6-2 victory over Orlando on Saturday ... Raul Gonzalez extended his hitting streak to 10 games at Louisville. The Bats won 11-7 in 15 innings. Brandon Larson went 4-for-6 with two home runs.
STAT CORNER: Reds pitchers have allowed eight home runs so far this year. After 12 games last year, they had allowed 14.
UP NEXT: The Reds are off today. They start a three-game series with Houston at Cinergy Tuesday night at 7:10.
