Reds make pitch for responsible drinking
The Cincinnati Enquirer
The Reds are trying to make Cinergy Field more of a family environment by instituting a Good Sport program. The idea is to get fans to consume alcohol responsibly at games.
It's a good thing for fans, Reds chief operating officer John Allen said. It should make games more enjoyable.
The three-point program comprises:
Messages to make the public aware of the importance of responsible behavior.
Training concession workers and security personnel to prevent problems before they happen. More than 250 people have been trained in Teams/Tips, a program sponsored by Major League Baseball.
A designated driver program. Designated drivers can sign up with Reds customer relations to become eligible for free tickets and baseball jackets. A special wristband will allow them to purchase O'Doul's non-alcoholic brew for $1 in the stadium.
Allen said the Reds regularly get complaints about fans who have been drinking too much.
It seems like you have problems on certain dates, Allen said. We've gone with more of an event-management staff as opposed to ushers to help prevent problems.
