Boone turns off clubhouse music
Manager's rules call for teaching, not tunes, in clubhouse

Bob Boone doesn't have a lot of rules, but he has instituted a no-music policy in the clubhouse before games.
For one thing, it bothers me, he said. Some players like it. It helps them get ready for the game. Others don't. I say that's why God invented headphones.
The higher purpose behind the rule is to create a better working environment.
Boone also wants his coaches to be in the clubhouse before the game.
That's a time I want my coaches in there, talking about the game and talking about the other team, Boone said. You can't do a lot of teaching with music blaring.
Boone said the rule is open for amendment.
The Reds don't have a long list of regulations.
My one rule is, "Play the game as it's supposed to be played,' Boone said. As long as you're prepared ... It's what happens on the field that counts.
Boone said during spring training, following the controversy created by the comments by Pokey Reese, Dmitri Young and Ron Oester, that he does treat different players differently.
We have 25 individuals, Boone said. I treat them that way. You treat them as men, not kids. Everyone prepares differently.
