SARASOTA, Fla. - Ken Griffey Jr., Aaron Boone and Kelly Stinnett hit their first home runs of spring training Tuesday in the club's last game of the year at Ed Smith Stadium.
Griffey said he hasn't tried to hit home runs this spring.
It doesn't count (in spring training), Griffey said. My main thing is getting stronger. I'm not worrying about hitting home runs. Home runs come in bunches.
The arms: Chris Reitsma struggled through two innings, allowing two hits and five runs. Seven Reds pitchers followed, all pitching one inning. Scott Williamson gave up five runs on five hits in the fifth. The Reds gave up 12 hits.
The bats: The Reds had 11 hits. Boone went 3-for-5 with three RBI.
The rest: After going hitless in 26 consecutive at-bats, catcher Jason LaRue hit safely Tuesday for the second straight game. He also stole a base. He was 1-for-2.
Up next: The Reds will face the Boston Red Sox at 1:05 p.m. today in Fort Myers. The Reds snapped a four-game losing streak Monday by defeating Boston 7-3 at Ed Smith Stadium.
