The arms: Starter Jimmy Haynes went five innings to get the win. He allowed two runs on nine hits. He pitched out of jams in the first, second and fourth. ... Scott Sullivan, Hector Mercado and Luis Pineda each pitched one inning of one-hit ball. ... Jim Brower pitched the ninth, allowing one run, for his second save.
The bats: The Reds had 10 hits, including three doubles in the second inning. ... Sean Casey had two hits and two RBI.
The rest: Right fielder Juan Encarnacion threw Alex Rodriguez out at third with a laser throw to save a run in the first.
