The arms: Joey Hamilton continued to look like the Opening Day starter. He threw four innings of shutout ball. He allowed two hits, walked one and struck out four. Hamilton has allowed one run and seven hits in 13 innings this spring. He was pitching with a mildly sore back Thursday. ... Scott Sullivan followed with two innings of one-hit ball.

. . . Scott Williamson made his return. He gave up back-to-back home runs and struck out two in one inning in work.

The bats: The Reds had only five hits. ... Juan Castro drove in the first run with an infield single.

The rest: Barry Larkin left the game with slight discomfort in his lower abdomen. ... A sellout crowd of 7,270 attended.

Up next: The Reds play the Tigers in Lakeland in a 7:05 p.m. game today. Jimmy Haynes (0-2, 5.63 ERA) faces left-hander Mark Redman (2-0, 2.06).
