The arms: The Reds pitchers did not allow a hit until there were two outs in the sixth inning. For the game, seven pitchers combined to strike out nine, allowing only one hit and two walks. ... Joey Hamilton looked good in his spring debut. He worked two innings, allowing only a walk. ... Ricardo Aramboles, the 20-year-old obtained in the trade for Mark Wohlers, was overpowering. He struck out three in two innings. Ty Howington, who got the win, struck out two of the three batters he faced.
The bats: Jason LaRue singled in a run in the fifth to give the Reds their first lead of the spring. ... Ranier Olmedo, the 20-year-old shortstop prospect, had his second bunt single in as many games. ... Wilton Guerrero doubled in two runs in the seventh.
The rest: SS Gookie Dawkins made a nice defensive play, going up the middle to field a hard grounder, spinning and throwing out Gabe Kapler in the fourth inning. ... Only 2,505 attended, down nearly 5,000 from Thursday.
Up next: The Reds play the Texas Rangers again today. They'll play split-squad games in Port Charlotte. Right-hander Jose Rijo faces RHP Jeremi Gonzalez in the B game at 10a.m. RHP Jose Acevedo faces RHP Chan Ho Park in the A game at 1:05 p.m.
