Fans get tickets to ensure autographs at Redsfest

Beat the Christmas rush

The Reds are hoping Redsfest VI has some things missing from the first five fests: long lines and ticked-off fans.

A new system for autographs is being used for Redsfest, which begins at 4 p.m. today at Albert B. Sabin Cincinnati Convention Center.

Fans will be given tickets to get autographs. The tickets guarantee fans will get the autograph. If a player is going to sign only 250 autographs, 250 tickets will be distributed.

“What you had in the past was people who waited for two or three hours and then got within three or four of the front when the session ended,” Reds chief operating officer John Allen said. “People got upset.”

Tickets can be picked up at the autograph ticket area in Hall A. They will be distributed one hour prior to each player's autograph session. Each fan is limited to one ticket per player.

Other than that, Redsfest is about the same. Thirty-eight Reds and former Reds are scheduled to attend, including Barry Larkin, Sean Casey, Aaron Boone, Adam Dunn, Johnny Bench (Saturday only) and Danny Graves (today only).

This is the first time Redsfest has taken place in December.

“That might help,” Allen said. “We'll have all our merchandise there. People can buy things for Christmas.”
