Reds-Pirates Scouting Report

Records: Reds 56-83 (fifth place in the National League Central) vs. Pirates 53-87 (sixth place NL Central).

        Where: PNC Park, Pittsburgh.

When: 7:05p.m. today, Friday and Saturday; 1:35 p.m. Sunday.

        Radio: WLW-AM (700).

        TV: Fox Sports Net, Saturday.

The bats: The Reds' Adam Dunn, who broke an 0-for-15 slump with a fifth-inning double Wednesday night, has something to shoot for at PNC Park. In the first 66 games at PNC Park going into Wednesday's game, no player had yet reached the Allegheny River on the fly with a home run. The closest was the Cards' J.D. Drew, whose 468-foot blast May 17 landed on the lower River Walk and bounced into the river. The shortest distance a homer would have to travel to reach the river is 456 feet, directly down the right-field line.

        The arms:

        Today — Jose Acevedo (7-13, 4.74 ERA) vs. Dave Williams (2-6, 3.87)

        Friday — Lance Davis (6-2, 5.07) vs. Tony McKnight (2-3, 4.00)

Saturday Elmer Dessens (9-11, 4.51) vs. Ryan Vogelsong (0-4, 6.54)

Sunday Dennys Reyes (1-6, 5.15) vs. Jimmy Anderson (6-16, 5.61).

The Reds face a hot pitcher tonight. In his last 3 starts, Williams has allowed a total of only four runs and nine hits. In his two starts vs. the Reds this year, Williams has gone 1-1 with an 0.73 ERA.
