Reds call up catcher Miller
By John Fay
The Cincinnati Enquirer
The Reds called up catcher Corky Miller from Triple-A Louisville after Kelly Stinnett left Sunday's game with a right elbow strain.
Stinnett is expected to miss three to five games. To make room for Miller on the 40-man roster, the Reds transferred Barry Larkin from the 15-day dis abled list to the 60-day DL.
Miller, 25, signed with the Reds as an undrafted free agent in 1998. He's known for defensive skills.
But he never hit until this year, Boone said.
Miller has hit particulary well since being promoted from Double-A Chattanooga to Louisville. He was hitting .347 with seven homers and 28 RBI in 44 games at Louisville.
ON REHAB: Aaron Boone was not in the lineup Sunday after playing for the first time in 16 days on Saturday.
Boone's fractured right wrist isn't 100 percent. Because it is so late in the year, Boone is basically rehabbing with the big club. The plan was to play Boone Saturday against a left-hander, then give him Sunday off against a right-hander.
His swing looked a little long, Bob Boone said. He was helping it with his body. We just wanted to throw him in there and see how he looks.
Said Aaron: I'm a little sore. But it's OK. I just want it to continue to improve.
LARK'S BACK: Larkin was back in the clubhouse for the first time since his hernia surgery on Aug.24. He was examined by Dr. Tim Kremchek.
Everything was OK. I feel pretty good, he said. I start my rehab. Just ice and walking.
POKEY DROPPED: Pokey Reese was back in the seventh spot after nine starts at leadoff.
Reese, who entered Sunday's game with two hits in his last 25 at-bats, responded with hits in his first two at-bats Sunday.
When I first moved him up, it helped, Boone said before Sunday's game. But he's one-for-his-last-four games. I like his speed at the top. But he can't utilize his speed if he doesn't get on base.
Reese hit .244 with two homers and seven RBI in his stint at leadoff.
Walker hit leadoff Sunday.
FARM NO-NO: Justin Gillman, the Reds' No.2 pick in the draft, threw six innings of no-hit ball in Billings' 6-1 victory over Great Falls Saturday. Gillman walked five, struck out two and allowed an unearned run. Two relievers completed the no-hitter.
