Reese streaking at top of lineup
By John Fay
The Cincinnati Enquirer
Reds manager Bob Boone was asked if he was going to leave Pokey Reese in the leadoff spot.
I think so. He's getting a little more into it, was Boone's answer.
That would seem to imply that Reese was not into it it being playing for the Reds before.
Reese has made no secret of his desire to be traded, but he says that had nothing to do with his season-long struggles at the plate.
That wasn't it, he said. I was relaxed. I was just struggling.
Reese is no longer struggling. He was 3-for-5 with a homer and four RBI in Thursday's 12-2 victory over St. Louis. He has a five-game hitting streak in which he has hit .409 (9-for-22).
Whether that has made Reese happy to be a Red is uncertain. He would not address his future.
I don't want to go into all that again, he said.
Thursday was his fourth straight game in the leadoff spot.
Yeah, it's helped, he said, adding that hitting first has forced him to be more selective. That's a big part of it. The better the pitch, the more chance you've got to hit it well.
