Riedling rejoins bullpen
By John Erardi
The Cincinnati Enquirer
Reds pitcher John Riedling was activated off the disabled list and will rejoin the Reds' bullpen. Fellow pitcher Scott Winchester was designated for assignment.
Dennys Reyes will rejoin the Reds Tuesday to start a game in St. Louis. Another roster move will be made at that time, Reds officials said.
A CORKIN' TIME: The latest revelations by former Pete Rose confidante Tommy Gioiosa, who said Rose once showed him one of his bats that had been corked, do not shock Reds manager Bob Boone or Reds broadcaster Marty Brennaman.
Boone, who played with Rose in Philadelphia, and Brennaman, who was close to Rose in their many years together in Cincinnati, each said there is a big difference between having a corked bat and using it in a game.
Guys have been messing with bats forever, Boone said. "I had a corked bat. But I never used it in a game. I'd use it to screw around in batting practice. I was curious.
Brennaman is surprised as well.
If Pete used a corked bat and I never saw any indication of it one, he ain't by himself and two, I venture to say there are people in the Hall of Fame who probably did it, too, Brennaman said.
