Harnisch can see himself here in 2002
By John Fay
The Cincinnati Enquirer
Pete Harnisch's right elbow was sore and swollen Friday, a day after surgery.
I won't be doing handstands naked in the shower for a while, he said.
But Harnisch was relieved that the surgery was over and he was on the way to recovery.
Yes, he said. Because (Dr. Tim Kremchek) didn't think it would get better (without surgery).
Harnisch was put on the disabled list May 11 because of the elbow problem. He would progress in rehab then have a setback, but feels more optimistic now.
In three months, I should be 100 percent, he said.
Harnisch is free agent after the season, but it looks like the Reds will get the first chance to sign him. He and Reds general manager Jim Bowden talked briefly about it Wednesday.
He asked if I was interested in pitching for the organization, Harnisch said. I am. ... They gave me a chance when nobody else would. I like it here. I don't think we're that far from turning it around.
Harnisch wouldn't go so far as to say the surgery assured he would be back.
But it's a real possibility I think, he said.
