Dunn has bad day in field
Rookie misplays three balls
By John Fay
The Cincinnati Enquirer
The Reds knew Adam Dunn would have days like these. They knew months ago that his bat was ready for major-league testing, but they were concerned about Dunn as an outfielder. He showed why Sunday.
Dunn misplayed three balls in the outfield Sunday. All three were scored as doubles, but, with good jumps, Dunn could have gotten to all three.
Eric Owens' shot in the fourth went off Dunn's glove. John Mabry's shot in the fifth went directly over his head.
Dunn, the 21-year-old rookie right fielder, said playing his first day game at Cinergy was a factor.
But I just misjudged them, he said. I don't want to make excuses.
Dunn went over to center fielder Ken Griffey Jr. after the third misplayed ball.
I asked him if he could see them, Dunn said. Of course, he said yes.
Dunn also has gone eight at-bats without a hit after hitting in his first seven games as a Red.
He made some mistakes, Reds manager Bob Boone said. He's gone a couple games without a hit. We want to see how he'll react.
