Road woes continue for Marlins
The Associated Press
Florida manager Tony Perez received another warm ovation from Reds fans when he took out the lineup card Saturday, then watched helplessly as the Marlins lost another one on the road.
With the Reds' 5-0 victory, the Marlins have dropped 11 of 15 road games, falling to 20-33 away from Miami. They also got the distinction as the first visiting team to lose back-to-back games at Cinergy Field all season.
See everything happens to us on the road, Perez lamented.
Marlins starter Brad Penny (7-5) gave up three hits and tied his career high with five walks in six innings as he lost his fourth consecutive start. The three walks in the sixth, followed by Dmitri Young's grand slam, were his undoing.
I beat myself, he said. I just lost it for three hitters. My hand was wet and I didn't follow through on my pitches. That's my fault.
The Marlins got only one runner to second base against Elmer Dessens (7-8).
Marlins Notes: Florida RHP Gary Knotts made his big league debut in relief. Knotts is scheduled to start next Thursday in Milwaukee. ... Florida's Derrek Lee went 0-for-4, ending his hitting streak at nine games, which matched his career high.
