Rijo to pitch again Sunday

Will probably go two innings for Louisville

Jose Rijo is willing to do whatever the Reds want as the next step in his comeback bid. He just isn't sure what they want.

Rijo was back in Cincinnati Friday after pitching two innings for the Louisville RiverBats on Wednesday.

So when is he pitching next?

“I don't know,” he said. “If you find out first, let me know.”

Tim Naehring, the Reds' director of player development, said Rijo will pitch Sunday in Louisville.

“He'll probably go two innings again,” Naehring said.

Rijo's last outing was encouraging. His velocity was back up to 88, 89 mph.

“Everything they've asked me to do, I've done,” he said. “They asked to get my (speed) back up and I did.”

Rijo was hoping to make his return to the big leagues Sunday. But that was scratched after he struggled to get his fastball into the mid-80s two outings ago.
