When: 7:05p.m. today; 12:35p.m. Thursday.
Where: Cinergy Field.
TV: ESPN2 and Fox Sports Network, today.
Records: Cincinnati 35-58, sixth place NL Central; Atlanta 52-41, tied for first in NL East.
Probable starting pitchers:
Today, RHP Elmer Dessens (6-7, 4.70 ERA) vs. LHP Tom Glavine (8-5, 4.36);
Thursday, RHP Jim Brower (4-6, 3.74) vs. RHP John Burkett (6-7, 2.51).
The bats: Through Monday, Atlanta ranked fifth in team batting average (.266) but only 11th in scoring. Chipper Jones (.307, 28 homers, 69 RBI) seems destined for another huge year.
The arms: As usual, the Braves rank among the majors' pitching elite, owning the NL's second-best ERA (3.80) through Monday.
The rest: Atlanta and Cincinnati have played just once this year, on Opening Day, April 2, when the Braves broke a 4-4 tie in the seventh and won 10-4.
