Reds not taking chances with Larkin
The Associated Press
Barry Larkin wandered onto the field during batting practice Monday wearing a T-shirt and workout shorts. No bat. No glove. No taking chances.
The shortstop isn't allowed to do anything more strenuous than jog on a treadmill as he rehabilitates torn muscles in his groin. He went back on the disabled list June 29 and is eligible to return anytime but isn't even close to being ready to play.
The trainers won't let him do anything strenuous out of fear he could make the injury worse. He took ground balls on the field during the homestand and heard about it.
It's a fight to get to do anything, Larkin said. The other day when I took ground balls, they were like, 'What?' They don't want me to do anything.
