Probable starting pitchers:
Today, RHP Jose Acevedo (2-1, 5.57 ERA) vs. RHP Chris Holt (6-7, 5.84)
Monday, LHP Lance Davis (1-1, 9.30) vs. LHP Adam Pettyjohn (major-league debut)
Tuesday, RHP Chris Reitsma (4-8, 4.49) vs. RHP Jeff Weaver (8-8, 3.99).
The bats: The Tigers are hitting .302 (104-for-344) in July. Overall, they are tied for fourth in the American League at .272.
The arms: Holt, today's starter, owns a 1-5 record with a 6.54 ERA in nine career appearances against Cincinnati. Closer Matt Anderson usually hits the ground running, limiting the first batters he has faced to a .143 average (5-for-35), eighth-best in the AL.
The rest: Detroit has taken two out of three games from Cincinnati in the previous two series they've played, including last year at Comerica Park and '99 at Cinergy.
