Fan's eye view of the Reds

Thumbs up, Dmitri Young: Reds outfielder Dmitri Young helped his trade value considerably by finishing the first half hitting safely in 13 of 14 games (27 for 55, .491) with three homers. The opposite goes for Pokey Reese, who went 8 for 53 (.151), including career-worst 0 for 22, just before the break.

Another Reds player who might be on the market, outfielder Alex Ochoa, finished the first half 0-for-25.

Incomplete: Predictably, the Reds remained the National League's only team without a complete game and set a franchise record by going 90 games to begin the season without one.

Dubious streak: Alex Ochoa struck out as a pinch hitter in the 10th inning, extending his hitless streak to 31 at-bats. It's the longest hitless skid by a Red since pitcher Mike LaCoss went 0-for-36 in 1980.

Big weekend: The Cleveland series drew 108,400, by far the Reds' highest three-game total this season.

Extra credit: The Reds won their first extra-inning home game in four tries. They're 5-4 overall in extras.

Stolen moments: Trying to stimulate its offense, Cincinnati stole a season-high five bases, including two by Pokey Reese.

        Minor leagues:

Ty Howington has made the move from low A ball to high A ball flawlessly. Howington is 2-1 with a 1.57 ERA since being promoted from Dayton to the Mudville Nine.

Howington, the left-hander who was the Reds' first pick in the 1999 draft, started the season late after elbow surgery. But he has shown no ill effects.

His combined numbers: 6-1, 1.30 ERA. He has struck out 81, walked 19 and allowed 32 hits in 62 innings.
